ROOTED IN THE LAND

There are few places on Mayne Island that capture the deep, intentional spirit of West Coast craftsmanship quite like The Healing Place. Rooted in a profound connection to the local environment and the animals they work with, they create a space where land-based learning, traditional artistry, and community healing come together. From handcrafted ceremonial drums and artisanal tallow skincare to original wood panel artwork, everything they offer carries a genuine story of respect, sustainability, and honoring the whole animal.

What makes their work so unique is an unwavering commitment to working with available natural materials rather than mass-producing a fixed catalog. Because their stock adapts to what the land provides, you will find an ever-changing array of pieces, ranging from small hand drums and tom-toms to large pow-wow drums, alongside rich wood panel artwork highlighting regional wildlife like ravens, deer, wolves, and bison.

"Every drum, every salve, and every piece of art carries a direct connection between land, animal, and human, honoring the process so that nothing is wasted. - The Healing Place

GATHERING & COMMUNITY CONNECTION

Beyond their physical goods, The Healing Place is deeply woven into the fabric of the island community. Whether visitors explore their booth at the Saturday market by the Ag Hall or take part in their immersive drum-making workshops, every offering invites people to slow down and connect. It is a celebration of local culture, land-based education, and keeping time-honored traditions alive right here on S,ḴŦAḴ.
